Designing thoughtful digital experiences around real people.

Hi! My name is Luola Starks, and I’m a graphic designer who got bored of designing around everyone’s personal tastes. Sally loves it. Dan hates it. Someone wants a logo bigger, someone else wants it smaller—and suddenly, design becomes an exhausting debate over opinions instead of a conversation about whether the design actually works. So. 3 projects, 3 solutions. Feel free to have a peek!

Three projects, three design challenges.

Each case study reflects a different facet of product thinking — from end-to-end redesigns and focused design sprints to social motivation systems. Together, they represent a design practice grounded in research, empathy, and craft.

Tandem — Making Fitness Progress More Social

Tandem is a fitness-tracking app designed to help people stay consistent through social accountability. Users can connect with a trusted fitness partner, track goals and activity, share progress, exchange encouragement, and celebrate milestones—turning fitness from an individual task into a supportive, shared experience.

The Challenge

Fitness tracking often feels isolating. Tandem explored how meaningful connection and shared progress can help users stay motivated over time.

About

Designing with purpose, not just pixels.

My graphic design background developed a sharp eye for visual communication — hierarchy, typography, and composition. UX deepened that practice, teaching me to examine user behavior, context, friction, and the reasoning behind every design decision.

The result is an avid designer who brings both craft, curiosity, and genuinely meaningful design decisions to every project— someone who asks the right questions before committing to a single pixel.

Let's create something thoughtful.

I am open to Product Design, UX/UI Design, and related opportunities. Whether you're building a new product or refining an existing one, I will bring both strategic thinking, informed decisions, and visual precision to every collaboration.
